Summary

4。5/5 starsEvery single chapter just furthers the suspense and the plot， weaving a bigger spider web as things become more and more interconnected。 It completely gripping to see what is going to happen next and how it will weave into everything else。 With each volume， Johan becomes a greater enigma that makes it impossible to see what his true intentions really are。 Really excellent plotting and character work are being done here。

Things have definitely drawn closer as we have Johan and Tenma in the same place now， both working opposite each other， and Tenma has more allies who are now looking out for him and believe him about Johan。 This is definitely an addictive read， and I am so intrigued by how it will continue to progress。

Nice to be back to reading a physical book。 This one started to make sense out of the fragments of the earlier installment。 I was confused as to who Robert was bc I forgot about him。 Or maybe he hadn't already been introduced？ This section didn’t have Nina and Tenma in it very much， we mostly had this dude Richard who was plagued with guilt over having killed someone on duty。 The person he killed was at the same orphanage as Johan back in the day。 Robert ends up suicided by Johan。 Richard was be Nice to be back to reading a physical book。 This one started to make sense out of the fragments of the earlier installment。 I was confused as to who Robert was bc I forgot about him。 Or maybe he hadn't already been introduced？ This section didn’t have Nina and Tenma in it very much， we mostly had this dude Richard who was plagued with guilt over having killed someone on duty。 The person he killed was at the same orphanage as Johan back in the day。 Robert ends up suicided by Johan。 Richard was being treated by a psychoanalyst whose name I can’t remember， who mentored Rudi in college （Rudi and Tenma were also classmates）。 Now the 2 psychologists （Rudi and Dr。 whatever） want to clear Tenma’s name and also prevent him from killing Johan so he doesn’t become morally tainted or whatever。 There is also this whole subplot about a very rich man， Herr Schuwald and his illegitimate son and Johan is his personal assistant。 Nina seems to be taking classes at the same place Johan is attending。 Johan also takes care of a bunch of children and has them playing a russian roulette-esque game where they jump off buildings。 There was also a brief aside where Tenma helps out at a hospital for undocumented immigrants that is being run by a 17 yo vietnamese girl。 How is Tenma always falling into these situations？ I was confused a bit about the Madame character who had assumed the identity of Karl’s mother。 She’s dead now so hopefully I don’t have to concern myself with this？ Things are starting to make slightly more sense I guess， but what I don’t get is how are all these people in the same place （Johan Tenma Nina） and they haven’t run into each other yet？？？What is going to happen with the kids book that affected Johan so much？Lunge trying to put himself in the mind of Tenma was interesting。 He needs to step away from the case in order to see the situation clearly because rn he is too zoomed in。 It’s like when you look at a super zoomed in photo and think it’s blades of grass when actually it’s a photo of a green sweater。 Yeah even tho I’m getting back into my stride I didn’t enjoy this volume as much as the first one because it was getting away from the characters I care about the most。 。。。more

Algo que realmente impressiona na obra de Urusawa é que para além da complexidade dos próprios protagonistas， os demais personagens retratados longe de serem unidimensionais são complexos e agregam a história principal。 Junte isso a forma extremamente original com que ele conta sua história， de forma lenta e gradual tornando-a cada vez mais complexa e interessante。 Estamos mais ou menos na metade da história e a pergunta permanece， quem ou o que é Johan？ Mesmo flertando com o sobrenatural e idei Algo que realmente impressiona na obra de Urusawa é que para além da complexidade dos próprios protagonistas， os demais personagens retratados longe de serem unidimensionais são complexos e agregam a história principal。 Junte isso a forma extremamente original com que ele conta sua história， de forma lenta e gradual tornando-a cada vez mais complexa e interessante。 Estamos mais ou menos na metade da história e a pergunta permanece， quem ou o que é Johan？ Mesmo flertando com o sobrenatural e ideias até bem conhecidas nada aqui é clichê ou desconexo com a proposta da narrativa。 。。。more

A PI named Richard， who was thrown off the police force for shooting a kid， is in therapy to deal with that， as well as the addiction to alcohol that almost killed him and cost him his wife and his daughter。 Even now， his daughter won’t see him， although he’s on a better footing with his ex。 Richard asks his therapist， Dr。 Reichwein， to look at a photo and see if he can tell anything about the man in the picture。 Turns out， things are starting to work out for him and his daughter has agreed to s A PI named Richard， who was thrown off the police force for shooting a kid， is in therapy to deal with that， as well as the addiction to alcohol that almost killed him and cost him his wife and his daughter。 Even now， his daughter won’t see him， although he’s on a better footing with his ex。 Richard asks his therapist， Dr。 Reichwein， to look at a photo and see if he can tell anything about the man in the picture。 Turns out， things are starting to work out for him and his daughter has agreed to see him the next day。 When that doesn’t happen， though， he contemplates turning back to drink。Neuman， who still hasn’t revealed his true identity to the billionaire Schuwald， has introduced Johan to him， and Johan has become indispensable。 Neuman’s foster parents reveal that they wish to adopt him。 Without giving them an answer， he calls his employer and says he is leaving his employ， but the old man wants him to read to him one last time。 Richard， the PI， tries to report to Schuwald what he has learned， but the man is no longer interested and insists the matter is settled。Dr。 Reichwein remembers a former student of his who has done very well， Dr。 Gillen。 He’s recently read an interview Gillen did with a serial killer named Jürgens who claimed a “friend” ordered him to commit the murders。 He also asks him about a former classmate of his who did well， a doctor named Tenma。As Richard continues to investigate the people who surround Herr Schuwald， he is starting to uncover a disturbing pattern… plus he finds himself the object of some near-misses that could have hurt or killed him。 He ends up at the home of Johan’s current adoptive parents， the Lieberts。When Dr。 Reichwein receives some devastating news， as he tries to figure out what happened and he is almost killed！ He chases down his would-be killer and confronts him， demanding to know who is paying him to do this。 Later， his life is saved by Dr。 Tenma， and meanwhile Dr。 Gillen is visited by BKA Inspector Lunge。 Nina Fortner is hot on Johan’s trail， while Johan is teaching children a terrible game， and Tenma lies in wait to rid the world of a monster…Not as much of Tenma or Nina in this volume， but the other characters and their stories are definitely riveting。 The PI who is trying to redeem himself for his daughter’s sake， the therapist who has ties with two former students， including Tenma， and who is determined to unravel the mystery he’s begun to see。 The obsessed Lunge， whom I suspect no longer cares if Tenma is innocent or guilty， he’s just going to bring him down no matter what。 I can’t help but compare the so-called “friend” of Jürgens， who forced him to kill， with the sinister Friend of Urasawa’s Twentieth Century Boys。 Both Johan and Friend are definitely evil men。 I really hope Tenma doesn’t go through with his plans。Another great volume， can’t wait for the next one。 。。。more
